Preparation of

PVC window profiles

Economical recycling of PVC window profile sections in and old windows

The hamos WRS window recycling system is specially designed for the economical recycling of PVC window profile sections and old PVC windows and consists of a combination of hamos EKS electrostatic plastic separators and opto-electronic colour sorting devices.

hamos EKS electrostatic separators are used to separate practically all seals (rubber, soft PVC, etc.) from shredded and dedusted PVC window sections. To further increase purity and/or improve the degree of whiteness, opto-electronic colour sorters are installed downstream.

By combining these two processes, PVC purities of over 99.99 % can be achieved.

Requirements for your material

In order to achieve an optimum separation result, the PVC window regrind to be separated should be as follows:

  • PVC regrind with impurities such as rubber, nylon, flexible PVC, etc.
  • Particle size 2 to 8 mm
  • Dedusted material
  • Completely digested material
  • Dry material (ideal surface moisture < 0.8 %)
  • Material not treated with antistatic agents

Not sure whether your material is suitable for electrostatic separation? After consultation, send us a material sample of approx. 20 kg, which we will use to test the separability of your material in our technical centre.

We will show you the purities and throughputs we can achieve with your material. You will receive our test report based on these separation results. We will then be happy to offer you the optimum system for your application.

You will be amazed at the added value you can achieve with your material once it has been separated into unmixed fractions.

Functional principle

Step I: Electrostatic separation

In the hamos EKS, the pelletised and dedusted mixture of PVC and rubber is tribo-electrically charged in a special charging unit, whereby PVC particles are negatively charged and rubber and foreign plastics are positively charged. The plastics are then separated in a high-voltage field. A special electrode design also separates out some of the impurities from metal, glass, wood, PE film, etc. that may be contained in the material.

Step II: Colour sorting

In order to increase the product purity of the PVC fraction, a SEA PIXEL opto-electronic colour sorting system is subsequently used. The material to be sorted is inspected from all sides by a camera system. If an incorrectly coloured particle is detected, it is blown out by a fast-switching pressure valve.

Your advantages
  • Dry separation process
  • PVC purities up to over 99.99 %
  • Low PVC loss
  • Improving the whiteness of the product
  • Separation independent of specific weight
  • Separation of additional impurities from non-plastics such as wood, metal, glass, etc.
  • Proven system combination
  • Rapid amortisation
  • High throughputs
  • Low energy consumption
  • Low personnel deployment

Examples

For example, if you

  • Production waste from PVC window profiles
  • Profile sections
  • PVC old windows
  • PVC doors
  • Roller shutter armour
  • etc.

recycle, the hamos WRS system is ideal for separating unwanted contaminants such as rubber seals, nylon and other foreign plastics.
